Chad posted these thoughts to his own personal blog on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
“I ran across something online the other day that really got me thinking. A semi-popular Christian pastor/blogger was weighing in on the recent C.J. Mahaney controversy, and he had this to say:
‘Watching the C.J. fiasco: the Christian leader can’t defend himself against the charge of pride because that would be “proud.”‘
I thought that was very well put. Later on, he said something that I thought to be equally as apropos:
“Accusing a Christian leader of pride is cheap. It’s guaranteed impact because it’s subjectively assessed and it’s the m.o. of the ineffective.”
Well said, but shockingly ironic. His statements, though seemingly reflecting a level of wisdom, also reflect an equal level of inconsistency. Just a few months ago, this same individual had this to say about a pastor with whom he disagreed:
“I think he’s the product of a sub-culture and so vainglorious that he can hardly conceive of the possibility of having failed.”
Yikes.
Of all the admirable attributes, there is perhaps none as illusive as consistency. It is indeed, as Shakespeare stated so many years ago, a jewel.”
